Privacy Policy
Effective Date: 8/2/2026
Philip Zimmerman, LMFT (“we,” “us,” “our,” or “this practice”) operates the website philipzimmerman.com (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy explains what information the Site collects, how it is used, and the choices available to you as a visitor. It applies to your use of this website; it does not apply to protected health information (PHI) created in the course of therapy, coaching, or spiritual direction services, which is governed separately by our HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices, provided to clients at intake.
By using this Site, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
1. Who We Are
Philip Zimmerman, LMFT 321 Billingsly Ct, Ste. 15 Franklin, TN 37067
This Site is used to share information about counseling, coaching, and spiritual direction services offered by Philip Zimmerman, and to allow visitors to request more information.
2. Information We Collect
a. Information You Provide Directly
If you use the contact form on this Site, we collect the information you submit, which may include your name, email address, phone number, and any message you write. This information is used solely to respond to your inquiry and is not used for marketing purposes without your separate consent.
Form submissions are transmitted securely and stored in our website’s database and/or delivered by email to Philip Zimmerman. Please do not include sensitive health information, crisis-related content, or protected health information in the contact form; it is intended for general inquiries only.
We do not currently offer client intake forms, scheduling, or payment processing through this website. Intake paperwork is provided separately, outside of this Site, once a client relationship begins.
b. Information Collected Automatically
Like most websites, this Site automatically collects certain technical information when you visit, including your IP address, browser type, device type, pages viewed, referring URL, and the date and time of your visit. This information is collected through our web hosting provider’s standard server logs and through Google Analytics (see below).
3. Google Analytics & Cookies
This Site uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, to help us understand how visitors use the Site (for example, which pages are viewed most often). Google Analytics uses cookies (small text files stored on your device) to collect this information.
Google Analytics may collect data such as your approximate location (city/region level), device and browser type, and browsing behavior on this Site. This data is aggregated and used for statistical purposes; it is not used to personally identify you.
Your choices:
- You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
- Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies through their settings.
- You can review Google’s own privacy practices at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
Beyond Google Analytics, this Site may use a small number of cookies required for basic website functionality (for example, remembering security/session preferences). Because public commenting is disabled, this Site does not set comment-related cookies.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the information described above to:
- Respond to inquiries submitted through the contact form
- Understand general trends in how visitors use the Site, in order to improve its content and usability
- Maintain the security and proper functioning of the Site
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.
5. How We Share Information
We do not share your personal information except as necessary to operate this Site, including with the following categories of service providers:
- Web hosting provider: stores website files and form submissions on secure servers
- Email delivery service: used to route contact form submissions to Philip Zimmerman
- Google Analytics: as described above
- Website security services: used to monitor for and block malicious traffic, spam, and unauthorized access attempts
These providers are only permitted to use information as needed to provide their services to us and are not authorized to use it for their own marketing purposes.
We may also disclose information if required to do so by law, or to protect the safety, rights, or property of this practice, its clients, or the public.
6. Data Retention
Contact form submissions are retained only as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your inquiry and for basic administrative record-keeping, after which they may be deleted. Automatically collected analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics’ standard retention settings.
7. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and administrative measures to protect information collected through this Site, including the use of website security monitoring and firewall protection. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If you are communicating information you consider sensitive or urgent, please contact our office directly by phone rather than through the website contact form.
In the unlikely event of a security breach affecting personal information collected through this Site, we will provide notification as required under the Tennessee Identity Theft Deterrence Act (Tenn. Code Ann. § 47-18-2107), which generally requires notice to affected Tennessee residents without unreasonable delay, and no later than forty-five (45) days from discovery of the breach.
8. Children’s Privacy
This Site is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through this Site.
9. Links to Other Websites
This Site may contain links to third-party websites (for example, on our Resources or Helpful Links pages). We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those external sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any website you visit.
10. Protected Health Information
If you are a current or former client of this practice, information related to your treatment is protected health information (PHI) under HIPAA and is governed by our separate HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices, provided to you at the start of services, not by this website Privacy Policy.
11. Tennessee Privacy Law Notice
This Site’s data practices have been reviewed with reference to Tennessee law, including:
- The Tennessee Information Protection Act (TIPA), which took effect July 1, 2025. TIPA applies only to businesses that exceed $25 million in annual revenue and meet certain consumer-data-volume thresholds. This practice does not meet those thresholds, and TIPA’s consumer-rights provisions (such as formal opt-out mechanisms for data sales or targeted advertising) do not currently apply to this Site. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising in any event.
- The Tennessee Identity Theft Deterrence Act (Tenn. Code Ann. § 47-18-2107), Tennessee’s data breach notification statute, which applies to businesses of any size. See Section 7 above for how we address this.
Because privacy laws (including thresholds, requirements, and enforcement) continue to evolve, this section will be reviewed periodically, and nothing here should be read as a legal determination of this practice’s obligations.
12. Your Choices
You are not required to provide any personal information to browse this Site. If you choose not to use the contact form, you may reach our office directly by phone or mail using the information listed above.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. The “Effective Date” at the top of this page will indicate when it was last revised. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
