Areas of Care

Depression and anxiety are often connected. They can have deep ramifications in our emotional life, physically, spiritually, as well as emotionally.

I help couples explore various aspects of a future life together including history, styles of conflict, finances, spiritual outlook, sex, and much more. I help clients make plans to firmly establish their relationship based on 14 characteristics of healthy couples and families.
More
Research shows that just teaching “communication skills” usually is ineffective. I help the couple correct the broken patterns in their relationship and lead them through their points of pain into a closer bond and attachment.
More
I help clients explore the roots of their addiction – emotionally, relationally, and spiritually – in an environment that helps them move toward positive change.
More
I am trained to use EMDR, a powerful psychotherapy tool, to help clients heal from abuse and other trauma.
More
Spiritual abuse occurs when an authority figure abuses their influence based on religious grounds. Spiritual abuse can deeply affect one’s view of God, others and self and can produce significant trauma.
More
I use a system-oriented perspective and tools to help the family identify and change the areas of the family that are not functioning as well as they would like. My goal is to help the family write a better story than they are currently living.
More
I am trained in the CoachU model of Life and Executive coaching. I help clients clarify their goals, assess where they are today, and explore and implement ways to bridge the gap. I am also trained in EMDR, which can be used to help remove internal blocks that are limiting one’s ability to reach peak performance.
More
I help clients listen more closely to God, invite them to repond with greater trust, and encourage them toward deeper surrender to Him. Spiritual Direction is done with sensitivity to issues of mind, body, emotions and relationships that may be impacting my client’s spiritual life.

My Approach

Photo of Philip Zimmerman, LMFTI provide counseling and therapy for individuals, couples, and families who struggle with a variety of issues. Knowing that the therapeutic relationship is built on trust, hope, and care, I create an environment in which people can be themselves. My approach is holistic, acknowledging the interaction of mind, body and spirit in the healing process. Psychology, theology and Christian spiritual practices are integrated in a way that invites clients to look at both how they have been hurt and what they have done with their pain. At core, I view counseling as a healing relationship that helps people grow in their capacity to love others, to love God, and to love themselves. Often, we were hurt in context of relationship; and we heal in context of relationship.

My areas of focus include masculinity and gender identity issues, abuse and trauma recovery, restoring broken relationships, and couples in crisis.
